Andrey Solís Mora is a herping guide on the Caribbean slope of Costa Rica, based around Sarapiquí (Horquetas, Heredia) — one of the most herp-rich corners of the Neotropics. Running Herping Expedition CR, he leads night walks and reptile-and-amphibian expeditions in search of poison frogs, glass frogs, tree frogs and the region's famous vipers. His home ground includes the lowland and premontane rainforest of the Sarapiquí valley, where well over a hundred herp species can be found across a single week.
How Andrey guides
Herping is a night game. I read the forest after dark — checking bromeliads, leaf litter, stream edges and low vegetation where frogs call and snakes hunt — and put guests safely in front of the animals for observation and photography, keeping a respectful distance from the venomous species.
