Sergio Vargas is a Costa Rican naturalist and bird guide, owner of Pizote Tours (also known as Pizote Birding CR), based in Boca Tapada in the northern lowlands of Alajuela near the Nicaraguan border. He runs private wildlife-photography tours across Boca Tapada and other Costa Rican hotspots, and is known by guests for identifying birds by song from afar, positioning photographers for the best shot, and endless patience in the field. His signature outings target the region's star species: Great Green Macaw, King Vulture, Agami Heron, Sunbittern, Royal Flycatcher, Red-capped Manakin and Central American Pygmy-Owl, plus night walks, bat photography and Baird's Tapir.

I know where the birds are, read their song and movement, and set you up in the right position and light so you come away with the shot — from macaw feeding activity to nocturnal macro work.
