The Cahuita trail is cooler and livelier in the morning. Midday is hot and quiet.

  • Choose ethical rescue centres

Real rescue centres don't let you hold animals. If a place offers sloth photos or feeding, skip it.

  • Snorkel with a guide

Cahuita's reef is snorkelled with a guide certified by the ICT. The calmest water is usually in September and October.

Sunrise is between about 5:15 and 6 am and sunset between about 5:15 and 6 pm, depending on the month.

Walk the Cahuita beach trail slowly in the morning. Sloths hang over the path and howlers call from the trees near the shore.
