WHEN TO COME

Santa Teresa, month by month

Howler monkeys live in Cabo Blanco all year. The dry months make the dirt roads easier. Tide pools depend on the daily tide, not the season.

WHAT'S NEAR YOU

What you can reach from Santa Teresa

Times are by road from the centre of Santa Teresa. Roads at the tip of the peninsula are slow, so short distances can take a while.

  • Plan around the tides

Tide pools and some beach walks only work around low tide. Check the tide table.

  • Expect slow dirt roads

Roads here are dusty in the dry season and muddy in the wet one. A 4x4 helps.

  • Look up behind the beach

Howler monkeys often move through the trees behind the beach, especially in the morning.

FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

Photographing wildlife in Santa Teresa

Monkeys on the trail, life in the rock pools. Here is when the light works, where to stand and what to pack.

SHOT LIST · ODDS FOR OCTOBER

PLAN THE SHOT

Sunrise is between about 5:15 and 6 am and sunset between about 5:15 and 6 pm, depending on the month.

Start at the 8 am opening and walk before the heat. The full beach hike is about 10 km return, so plan 5 to 6 hours. Late afternoon light suits the west-facing tide pools.

FIELD TIP FROM LYFERR

Check the tide table. Rock pools near Mal País only show at low tide, and the Cabo Blanco trail is cooler in the first hours.
