FAQ

Frequently asked questions

December to April. Migrants from North America are still here, the Pacific side is dry and easy to reach, and many residents start singing in February. The Caribbean side is good all year.

It depends on the circuits and the pace. A full guided day in the Caribbean lowlands can pass 100 species. Each listing shows what that guide logged on past trips, checked against eBird.

San Gerardo de Dota and Monteverde are the usual places. Odds are best from February to May, when quetzals nest and feed on wild avocado trees.

Bring binoculars if you have them. Most bird guides carry a scope and some lend binoculars. Each listing says what is included.

Yes. Pick an easy-pace tour built around the colourful species. List trips start at dawn and move fast, and each listing says which kind it is.

Some do, with care and within park rules. Ask your guide how they work before you book.
